Overview

Université Laval is a public French-language research university located in Quebec City, Canada. It is recognized as the oldest institution of higher education in Canada and the first francophone university in North America, with origins dating back to the Séminaire de Québec founded in 1663. Officially established by royal charter in 1852, the university has evolved significantly over the years, expanding its academic offerings and transitioning from a religious institution to a secular public university in the early 1970s.
