Samuels Public Library
Overview
Samuels Public Library brings people, information and ideas together to enrich lives and build community. For over two centuries, Front Royal has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public access to literature and learning. The Front Royal Librarian Society was the second subscription library in Virginia, chartered on January 18th, 1799.
An act incorporating the Front Royal Library Society was passed by the General Assembly in 1836. The Library has persevered through war and depression, aided by the vision and generosity of community members. Notable contributions, including a building donated by Dr. Bernard Samuels in 1952 and a bequest from Walter Samuels in 1976, have enabled significant growth. The current modern facility, funded by the Warren County Board of Supervisors, opened on June 10th, 2009 and continues to serve Front Royal and Warren County with access to books and knowledge for all residents.
