Overview

The Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) is a non-profit organization established in 1953 that accredits over 380 independent elementary and secondary schools across 14 Southeastern states, the Caribbean, and Latin America. With a focus on educational quality, it oversees a voluntary accreditation process that emphasizes self-evaluation, continuous improvement, and peer review.

SAIS provides a comprehensive accreditation process including dual accreditation in partnership with Cognia, self-study evaluations, and ongoing support for continuous improvement. The organization offers resources such as the SAIS Accreditation Guidebook and an online Accreditation Portal for document management. As a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the National Council for Private School Accreditation, it promotes accountability and excellence in independent education, serving more than 220,000 students in accredited schools recognized for their commitment to quality education.
