Rutgers University, officially known as Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a public research university founded in 1766. As the eighth-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, Rutgers has a history intertwined with the American Revolution. The university operates multiple campuses across New Jersey, including its flagship in New Brunswick and Piscataway, as well as locations in Newark and Camden.

Serving over 45,000 undergraduates and more than 20,000 graduate and professional students, Rutgers is supported by approximately 9,000 faculty members.
