PCI Security Standards Council

Overview

The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) is a global organization established in 2006 by major payment card brands, including American Express, MasterCard, and Visa. Its main goal is to enhance payment account data security worldwide by developing and promoting security standards that protect cardholder data.

PCI SSC manages a suite of security standards, with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) being the most notable. This standard includes twelve core requirements aimed at helping businesses secure payment card data. The council has expanded its offerings to include 15 standards that address various aspects of payment security for card issuers, merchants, service providers, and more. Additionally, PCI SSC provides education, training, and validation programs to ensure compliance with these standards and fosters collaboration among stakeholders to continuously improve payment security.
