Overview

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is a nonprofit community development financial institution (CDFI) established in 1979. With a presence in nearly 40 cities and programs across 2,400 counties in 49 states, it is dedicated to fostering resilient and inclusive communities. Its mission focuses on investing in affordable housing, economic development, health, education, public safety, and employment initiatives. Since its founding, the organization has invested over $32 billion, creating more than 436,000 affordable housing units and enhancing community facilities.

The organization provides a range of financial support, including grants, loans, equity investments, and tax credit syndication. It also offers technical and management assistance to help local organizations effectively develop and manage projects. By partnering with banks, corporations, government agencies, and philanthropic foundations, it mobilizes resources to support community development efforts in both urban and rural areas. LISC is governed by a 21-member board and holds an S&P ‘AA-’ rating, reflecting its financial strength and commitment to community revitalization.
