Windsor-Essex County Health Unit

Overview

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is a public health agency dedicated to serving the residents of Windsor and Essex County, Ontario. Operating under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, it is governed by a board of municipal members and provincial appointees. Its core mission focuses on promoting and protecting community health through an array of public health programs and services.

The Health Unit provides comprehensive services such as immunization and screening programs, health education initiatives, family and child health support, as well as dental health services. Efforts also extend to sexual health, workplace health, food and nutrition resources, and the enforcement of public health standards. Strategies to address opioid and substance use are developed in response to community needs. WECHU maintains offices in Windsor and Leamington and remains committed to advancing the well-being of its population.
