Overview

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is an independent federal agency established in 1953 to support small businesses in the United States. Its mission is to help Americans start, build, and grow resilient small businesses, which are vital for job creation and economic growth. The SBA serves approximately 28 to 30 million small business owners, providing them with essential tools and resources to succeed.

The SBA offers a variety of services, including access to capital through government-backed loan guarantees, assistance in competing for federal contracts, and a network of counseling and training resources. It operates around 900 Small Business Development Centers and 110 Women’s Business Centers, providing free or low-cost business education and mentoring. Additionally, the SBA provides disaster assistance through low-interest loans to help individuals and businesses recover from declared disasters. The agency also promotes innovation through programs like the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.
