Overview

The University of Sarajevo (UNSA) is the oldest and largest public higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, officially established on December 2, 1949. It serves a diverse student body of over 25,000 to 45,000 across more than 100 study programs and 200 departments. The university encompasses six key academic areas: social sciences, humanities, medicine, technical studies, natural sciences, biotechnology, and arts.

UNSA has a rich history dating back to the 16th century, beginning as an Ottoman madrasa. Over the years, it has embraced educational reform through the Bologna Process and expanded its academic offerings to include 22 faculties, 3 academies, and 5 research institutes. The university is committed to international collaboration and educational excellence, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs designed to foster innovation and critical thinking.
