The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is the oldest existing university in Asia, founded on April 28, 1611. It began as a Dominican institution under the patronage of St. Thomas Aquinas and has a rich history marked by significant milestones, including its elevation to university status by Pope Innocent X in 1645 and the granting of royal patronage in 1680. UST moved to its current 21.5-hectare campus in Sampaloc, Manila, in the 1920s and is known for being the largest Catholic university by student population on a single campus.
