Overview

The University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) is the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, established in 1863. Originally founded as the Massachusetts Agricultural College, it has grown into a comprehensive research university with a commitment to public service and the common good.

It offers a diverse array of academic programs through nine colleges and schools, providing 111 bachelor's degrees, 75 master's degrees, and 47 doctoral degrees. As a major research institution, the campus features facilities such as the John W. Lederle Graduate Research Center and the Conte National Polymer Research Center.
