Overview

The Central University of Ecuador, located in Quito, is a public university with a rich history dating back to the 16th century. It originated from the Royal and Pontifical University of San Gregorio Magno, which was established in 1620. Over the years, it has undergone several transformations, including a merger with the Dominican University of Santo Tomás de Aquino and a reorganization during the Gran Colombia period, ultimately adopting its current name in 1836.

The university features ten colleges, offering a diverse range of over 20 academic programs in areas such as biomedicine, business, law, and engineering. It has developed a modern urban campus and has played a significant role in Ecuador's educational landscape, particularly in the fields of medicine and law.
