Stony Brook Medicine

Overview

Long Island's leading academic medical center and teaching hospital, part of Stony Brook University's Health Sciences Center, was established in response to the 1963 Muir Report and began operations in 1980 as the region's first academic medical center. The facility includes a 504-bed hospital offering comprehensive clinical services such as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, open heart surgery, and a Burn Center.

The Renaissance School of Medicine trains future physicians through its medical degree program and is recognized for significant medical research contributions, including the discovery of the cause of Lyme disease and the development of innovative medications. In 2016, a strategic partnership with Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine was formed to further advance education, research, and clinical care initiatives.
