Overview

Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency, is a government agency in Sweden responsible for national tax collection and population registration. Established on January 1, 2004, through the merger of the Swedish National Tax Board and regional tax authorities, it employs around 10,000 people and has local offices in over a hundred cities, with its headquarters in Solna, Stockholm County.

The agency manages tax collection for various forms of taxation, including personal income tax, corporate tax, VAT, and excise tax. It also oversees civil registration, maintaining essential population records. The agency offers services for businesses, such as tax registration for new and foreign companies, employer services for tax reporting, and a Business Overview e-service to help businesses track their reporting requirements. In 2022, the agency collected gross tax revenue of SEK 2,409.2 billion, reflecting a 6.4% increase from the previous year.
