Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is a government-owned public enterprise established on August 16, 1985. It was formed by merging several entities to manage the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power throughout Nepal. NEA operates primarily hydroelectric power plants, along with a few fuel-operated plants, and purchases electricity from Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

The organization is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining infrastructure to deliver electricity reliably across the country. NEA also advises the Government of Nepal on power policies and tariff structures, while focusing on capacity building through specialized training.
