Overview

JEA is a not-for-profit, community-owned municipal utility based in Jacksonville, Florida. It serves over one million residents and businesses across Northeast Florida, including Duval County and parts of three adjacent counties. Established in 1895, it became an independent authority in 1967 and expanded its services in 1997 to include water and sewer systems. It is the largest community-owned utility in Florida and the eighth largest in the United States, employing over 2,200 people.

The organization provides a range of services, including electricity generation and distribution, potable water supply, and wastewater treatment. Its electric system features four generating plants and extensive transmission and distribution lines. Power is generated from various sources, such as natural gas, coal, solar energy, and methane gas, and it operates eight solar farms. The utility promotes energy efficiency through rebate programs and is committed to delivering reliable, sustainable services that enhance quality of life while supporting economic development and environmental stewardship.
