Overview

Ege University is a public university located in İzmir, Turkey, established in 1955. It is the first university in the city and the fourth oldest in the country. The university has grown significantly since its inception, originally starting with faculties of Medicine and Agriculture. Today, it comprises 17 faculties, including Medicine, Engineering, and Natural Sciences, along with junior colleges, vocational training schools, and research centers.

The main campus in Bornova spans 370 hectares and serves a student population of approximately 65,580, including nearly 10,000 postgraduate students. The institution offers programs in both Turkish and English, providing comprehensive education from undergraduate to doctoral levels. It is recognized for its strong emphasis on research, particularly in medicine and allied health sciences, and engages in advanced projects that contribute to scientific innovation. The university also acts as a cultural and educational hub in the Aegean region, supporting international exchange programs and promoting social and cultural activities.
