Overview

edX is an online learning platform and massive open online course (MOOC) provider, founded in 2012 by Harvard University and MIT. Initially launched as a nonprofit, it became a for-profit subsidiary of 2U following its acquisition in 2021. The platform strives to widen access to high-quality education globally, serving over 33 million learners with around 3,000 courses from more than 150 institutions.

Offering a mix of free and paid courses, MicroMasters and MicroBachelors programs, and full online degrees, edX supports professional development and high school initiatives with a focus on workforce reskilling and educational equity.
