Overview

Colgate University is an independent, coeducational liberal arts college located in Hamilton, New York. Founded in 1817, it has a rich history that began as a Baptist seminary and evolved into a non-sectarian institution. The university was named in honor of the Colgate family's support and became coeducational in 1970.

The university enrolls approximately 2,900 undergraduate students and offers a limited number of graduate programs, including Master of Arts and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Colgate emphasizes academic excellence, faculty engagement, and a close-knit community.
