CINECA

Overview

CINECA is a non-profit consortium founded in 1969, consisting of around 67 to 70 Italian universities, national public research centers, and the Italian Ministries of Education, University and Research. Based in Casalecchio di Reno, Bologna, it is Italy’s most powerful supercomputing center and a prominent HPC (High-Performance Computing) facility in Europe. The organization operates advanced supercomputers, including the Marconi100 system, which boasts about 30 PetaFLOPS of computing power.

The consortium's mission is to support the scientific communities in Italy and Europe by providing supercomputing infrastructure and expertise. It offers a range of services, including access to HPC resources, scientific visualization tools, and ICT systems for universities and public administration. CINECA also engages in technology transfer for both public and private sectors, offering training and consultancy to enhance HPC and digital technology adoption. The organization collaborates with academic institutions, government bodies, and industry partners to foster innovation and support research initiatives.
