Overview

The largest employer in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, BISD covers an area of 95 square miles and plays a central role as an educational institution, providing K-12 education and a variety of services for students and families in the Brownsville area.

With offerings such as human resources management, student transportation, enrollment, cafeteria and nutrition services, BISD supports the holistic development and well-being of its students. It partners with community organizations through programs like ACE to enhance educational opportunities, and its policies and operations are overseen by an elected Board of Trustees.
