Overview

Austin College is a private liberal arts and sciences college located in Sherman, Texas. Founded in 1849, it is the oldest higher education institution in Texas operating under its original charter. The college serves roughly 1,219–1,300 undergraduate students with a student-faculty ratio of 11:1 to 13:1 and an average class size of 16. Over half of the student body identifies as persons of color.

The college offers more than 55 majors and pre-professional programs, emphasizing academic excellence and hands-on learning. Students participate in a mandatory First-Year Experience, a month-long JanTerm for interdisciplinary exploration, and can engage in undergraduate research through its Center for Research, Experiential, Artistic & Transformative Education.
