Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) is a statutory body established in 1995, fully owned by the Hong Kong SAR Government. It operates, manages, and develops Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which opened in July 1998. The authority was created to oversee the construction and ongoing management of HKIA, addressing capacity constraints and noise pollution issues from the former Kai Tak Airport. HKIA operates 24 hours a day and serves as a major international aviation hub in Asia.

AA is responsible for airport management, airside and landside operations, terminal services, cargo handling, and infrastructure development. It also plans long-term expansion projects, including the Master Plan 2030, aimed at enhancing airport capacity and efficiency. HKIA features one of the largest terminal buildings globally and two runways, supporting over 150 destinations. It is recognized as the world’s busiest cargo airport and one of the busiest for passenger traffic, serving as a hub for several airlines. The authority plays a significant role in the local economy, supporting around 65,000 employees and connecting Hong Kong with the global market.
