The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is a development financial institution established in 1982, wholly owned by the Government of India. Headquartered in Mumbai, it has 31 regional offices across the country. Its primary goal is to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development through various financial and non-financial interventions.

NABARD serves as the apex refinancing agency for institutions that provide credit in rural areas. It supports agriculture, small-scale industries, and rural enterprises by offering short-term, medium-term, and long-term refinance loans. The bank also plays a significant role in rural infrastructure development, supervises cooperative and regional rural banks, and implements government rural development schemes. Additionally, it is involved in training and capacity building for rural artisans and promotes social innovations. In the fiscal year 2022-23, NABARD disbursed over Rs. 2.6 lakh crore to meet rural credit needs and collaborates with around 4,000 organizations, including government bodies and international agencies, to enhance rural development initiatives.
